Adoption: Fees and Forms
To adopt a dog or cat from us, we have procedures in place to ensure our animals are going to a good home.
- Find your future pet: The first step is to look through our cats and dogs here on our site or Petfinder and see if any of them seem to fit your personality and lifestyle.
- Fill Out An Application: The second step is to fill out an application. If you would like to see the application now, or perhaps fill it out and email it to the shelter, then please click on one of the links below at the bottom of this section. It will download the form to your computer so you may fill it out and email it to us.
- Vet Reference: From the completed application, we complete a vet reference and if that is positive, we arrange a visit to your home.
- Home Visit: With the home visit, we are looking to provide you with helpful information to make a smooth transition for you and the animal.
- Take Your New Family Member Home! Once all these steps are completed (the process usually takes a few days) and the adoption is approved, you can come pick up the animal.
- The adoption fee for a dog is $200, a puppy is $250, and a cat and kitten is $100.
- For surrender of dog spayed or neutered it is $75.00; for surrender of unspayed or non-neutered dog is $100.00. Surrender fee for spayed or neutered cat is $50.00. Surrender fee for unspayed and non-neutered male is $75.00

Volunteer: Jobs and Form
Since the Salem County Humane Society has no paid personnel, volunteers are needed to effectively keep the shelter running. Several volunteer opportunities exist such as:
- Daily Activities: Performing daily activities such as feeding and exercising the animals, cleaning the building to maintain a sanitary environment, and mainly loving all the dogs and cats.
- Vet Appointments: Taking dogs and cats to scheduled veterinary appointments.
- Maintenance: Performing maintenance to the building.
- Community Events: Participating in community events to increase awareness about the shelter.
- Foster: Providing temporary foster homes for animals recovering from surgery or illness. If you want to foster, please fill out a dog or cat form above.
